Immortal Words

We all heard it while growing up.  “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”

What a wildly untrue statement.

I’ve had my share of sticks and stones, and while they didn’t exactly break my bones, they hurt.  But only for the moment.  Words, on the other hand, cut like a knife

“We’ve got to talk”

“Thank you for your application, but…”

“We are sorry to inform you…”

“We’ve decided to make a change.  Effective immediately…”

“She’s gone.”

“There’s someone else.”

“It’s cancer.”

I’ve always considered myself a “word girl”.   I still do, but I just wish there was a giant cosmic eraser.
